Scenario planning

Estimate one outage. Show your assumptions.

This is a meeting tool, not a forecast. Use an actual production-impacting scenario, make the assumptions visible, and validate them with finance, operations, and IT.

Outage cost worksheet

What would this interruption cost?

Enter costs that are distinct. If lost margin already includes the labor effect, set the labor field to zero to avoid double counting.

Model one scenario

Use the result in a decision meeting

  1. Describe the interruption: which systems, process, shift, site, or customer impact are you modelling?
  2. Agree on the assumptions with operations and finance. Record whether work is delayed, lost, or recoverable.
  3. Ask technology leaders what recovery capability would change the duration or scope.
  4. Prioritize the investment that reduces the most material exposure with measurable evidence.
Feedback from finance leadersThe decision is rarely whether technology is “important.” The question is whether a known exposure has an owner, a tested recovery path, and a cost that is visible before an event.
